Thundering Herd Back Home Against Rice, LA Tech

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall Volleyball is back in the Cam Henderson Center for Homecoming this weekend with a Friday match versus Rice at 6 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. contest against Louisiana Tech on Sunday.

Have You Herd?

Marshall (7-13, 2-3) won at FIU last Friday by a 3-1 margin before dropping a 3-0 match at UTSA on Sunday. Sophomore Madelyn Cole had 43 assists and 17 digs against the Panthers, while fellow sophomores Madison Hill and Jac'cara Walker combined for 39 kills. Hill led the way with 12 points, including 11 kills against the Roadrunners.

The program will recognize its 2007 Conference USA regular season championship team before Friday's match and during the first quarter of Saturday's 2:30 p.m. football contest versus Old Dominion.

Friday's match will also serve as the Thundering Herd's Dig Pink contest for 2017, raising funds for breast cancer research, demonstrating the power of teamwork, and showing support for people with the disease. Fans who come to the match wearing a pink item will receive admission for $2. The first 100 fans will receive Marshall sunglass strips.

Walker still leads the conference in kills per set (4.45), while standing fifth in service aces (0.38). Addisyn Rowe is sixth in blocks (1.12), followed by Cole's seventh-place standing in assists (9.14) and Jessa Long's eighth-place position in digs (3.41).

Scouting the Owls

Rice (14-5, 3-1) came out of last weekend with home wins over Florida Atlantic (3-2) on Friday and FIU (3-0) Sunday. Grace Morgan and Madison McDaniel were named Conference USA players this week.

Morgan was named Defensive Player of the Week and leads all C-USA players with a .551 hitting percentage in league play and ranks third in blocks (1.45/set).

McDaniel was named the league's Setter of the Week. She earned her seventh-career weekly honor following a pair of double-doubles last week, averaging 10.75 assists, 3.88 digs and 1.50 points in eight sets.

Scouting the Techsters

Louisiana Tech (6-13, 1-4) registered a split last week, dropping a five-set match at Middle Tennessee on Friday before returning to Ruston and knocking off UAB, 3-1. Marta Monne and Gina Cortesi shone offensively for Tech, as the outside hitters combined for 23 kills in the loss to the Blue Raiders. The duo combined for 32 in the win over the Blazers.

Jacie McClure is sixth in the league digs per set (3.54), while Madeline Davis is eighth in hitting percentage (.340) and Brooke Short is 10th in assists (8.26).
