HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-The Marshall volleyball team took down the visiting Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters three sets to one on Sunday at the Cam Henderson Center (25-19, 19-25, 25-16, 25-17).
Marshall improved to 8-14 overall and 3-4 in Conference USA play, while La Tech fell to 6-15 overall and 1-5.
Madison Hill led the Thundering Herd in kills for the fifth straight match, as she tallied 20 with a .432 hitting percentage. Jac'cara Walker posted 12 kills (with 14 digs) and Addisyn Rowe added eight kills while hitting .353. Madelyn Cole contributed 40 assists (and 10 digs) for Marshall to go with Jessa Long's team-high 19 digs.
The Herd won nine straight points in the opening set. Trailing 9-5, Marshall grabbed momentum by winning eight of the next nine points, with Walker serving, to lead 14-9. The Herd never trailed for the rest of the set.
The Lady Techsters bounced back in the second set. With the score tied at 10 apiece, neither team won consecutive points until the visitors did so at 21-19. They swept the final four points to level the match at one set each.
Marshall dominated the third set, taking the lead at 2-1 and never trailing after. The Herd won 10 of the first 15 points and led by as many as 10.
The Herd continued its dominance in the fourth set, permanently taking the lead after going up 11-10. An Addisyn Rowe kill finished off the match.
The Herd led in nearly every team statistical category. It led the Lady Techsters in hitting percentage (.213-.121), assists (54-36), kills (57-38), service aces (6-0), and blocks (11-10).
The Herd returns to action Friday, Oct. 20 at the Cam Henderson Center when it takes on Florida International. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
