HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-The Marshall University track and field team hits the road again to travel to the 13th annual Akron Invitational. The team competes Friday and Saturday in Akron, Ohio.

The meet is the final regular season road indoor meet for Marshall. The Herd hosted the Thundering Herd Invitational last weekend, and will host the Chipotle Marshall Invitational next week at the Jeff Small Track at the Chris Cline Indoor Complex.

In two weeks, the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships will take place in Birmingham, Ala. on February 18-19.

Last weekend, Marshall finished second only behind Cincinnati in the Thundering Herd Invitational team standings. Individually, freshman Safiyyah Mitchell won the 60 meter hurdles with her time of 8.64. Additionally, two school records were broken; senior Andrea Porter in the mile (5:06.99) and sophomore Adriana Cook in the 5000m (17:28.86).

The meet comprises of over 20 schools, with power-five schools such as Michigan, Michigan State, and West Virginia among those scheduled to compete. The meet gets underway at 4 p.m. ET on Friday, and will resume at 10:00 a.m. ET on Saturday.

"We have trained hard this week," head coach Jeff Small said. "We will be leaving some athletes in Huntington to recover. We are hoping to run a great 4x400 meter relay and look for continued improvements from our distance crew."
