Marshall (20-21, 8-10 Conference USA) is tied with Louisiana Tech for seventh place after six weeks of C-USA play. Marshall and Louisiana Tech have a game up on Middle Tennessee and Rice at 7-11.
Relief pitcher Matt Reed has been one of the first guys out of the bullpen this season for head coach Jeff Waggoner. Reed earned his fourth save of the season at Morehead State. He is tied for a team-high 19 appearances with freshman Hunter Sexton.
SCOUTING THE MONARCHS
Old Dominion (28-12, 12-6 C-USA) enters the weekend series receiving votes from the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). The Monarchs became the first Conference USA school to win a series at Southern Miss since 2015 when it took two-of-three in Hattiesburg last weekend. It also marked Old Dominion's first series win at a ranked opponent since 2000. ODU has won five of six conference weekend series this season.
Junior infielder Jared Young leads the Monarchs at the plate with a team-high .365 batting average, 54 hits and seven home runs. Junior infielder Zach Rutherford has a team-best 38 RBIs.
