@HerdTFXC Success Shows Up in Regional Rankings

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.--The Marshall University track and field team has had its success backed up in the USTFCCCA national rankings. The USTFCCCA (U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) compiles national rankings on a weekly basis for Division I track and field/cross country programs.
Following conference championships across the country, Marshall is ranked sixth in the 31 team Mid-Atlantic Region. The team is ranked higher than the likes of power conference competition Villanova, West Virginia, Rutgers, and Georgetown.
The Herd follows only Penn State, Penn, Princeton, Pittsburgh, and Maryland in the Mid-Atlantic Regional rankings.
Performances which have given Marshall its regional ranking include:
Safiyyah Mitchell: Time of 13.66 in the 100 meter hurdles at the C-USA Championships
4x100 meter relay team (Byrd, Julmiste, Mitchell, Haywood): Time of 45.73 at the C-USA Championships
Antonique Butler: Jump of 12.72 meters (41 feet, 8.75 inches) in the triple jump at the C-USA Championships
Elena Marchand: Throw of 14.62 meters (47 feet, 11.75 inches) in the shot put at the C-USA Championships, and throw of 48.43 meters (158 feet, 10 inches) in the discus throw at the University of Virginia Challenge
Alexis Montes: Throw of 50.03 meters (164 feet, 1 inch) in the javelin throw at the High Point University Bob Davidson Spring-Kick Off
Torie Derrow: Point total of 4,919 at the C-USA Championships
