HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall women's soccer team makes its return to Hoops Family Field after three-straight road matches. The Herd takes on the Rice Owls on Friday at 7 p.m.

The Thundering Herd enters the match with an overall record of 5-6-2 and 3-3-0 in Conference USA. The Owls enter at 4-7 and 2-3 in conference action.

Fans who cannot attend the match, can tune in through HerdVision on C-USAtv as Jake Griffith will have the call, as well as on 88.1 WMUL-FM on-air and audio streamed online at www.marshall.edu/wmul through one of the Listen Live links.

Marshall has dropped its past two matches, both in conference. However, there are four conference contests remaining on the schedule as teams begin to come down to the wire to find a spot in the Conference USA Tournament. The Herd plays three of its final four at home. Juniors Marah Abu-Tayeh (7) and Farah Abu-Tayeh (5) continue to lead Marshall in goals this season. Redshirt junior Jayne Lawman is third with three. Junior keeper Megan Bonelli has 58 saves this season, 177 in her career and needs 13 more to move ahead of Kayla Johnson (1998-01) to move into third all-time in program history.

The Owls are coming off a 3-0 win over Louisiana Tech on Sunday. Rice took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break and then added to the advantage just four minutes and 32 seconds into the second half. The Owls have been shut out twice in conference play, taking 1-0 losses to UAB and North Texas, and have also been outscored 18-14 in 2018. Ten different players have scored a goal for Rice with Marissa Topolski leading the way with three. Lianne Mananquil leads with five assists. The Owls have used two players in net this season with Bella Killgore getting the majority of the time with 10 appearances and nine starts. Killgore has 37 saves, allowed 14 goals and has two shutouts.

This will be the tenth all-time meeting between the two schools that both entered Conference USA in 2005. The series is tied 4-4-1, however the Herd has taken three out of the last four meetings. The last meeting came in Huntington in 2015, a 1-0 Marshall win.

Following the match with Rice, Marshall takes on North Texas (Oct. 14) and Louisiana Tech (Oct. 21) before ending the regular season at WKU (Oct. 26). The Conference USA Championship Tournament begins on Oct. 31 and will be hosted by Old Dominion.
