LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Marshall men's soccer team is back in action at No. 5 Kentucky. Kickoff from Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex is set for Saturday at 7 p.m.

The match will be broadcast on the SEC Network+.

The Thundering Herd enters with an overall record of 4-5-2 and 1-1-1 in Conference USA. The Wildcats come in at 9-1-1 overall and 3-1-0 in conference action.

"Kentucky has been Marshall's conference rival going all the way back to our days in the (Mid-American Conference) together," Herd head Chris Grassie said. "Hopefully this match will be another classic rivalry match, that's competitively fought. Kentucky is having a great season, and they've played well and been very organized. They don't make many mistakes or beat themselves very often.

"We'll have to make sure we are up for the challenge and are ready to take our chances when they happen."

Marshall is coming off a 3-0 victory over Purdue Fort Wayne, at Hoops Family Field on Oct. 9. Sophomores Jamil Roberts and Pedro Dolabella as well as freshman JP Rylah all scored for the Herd. Freshman Jan-Erik Leinhos assisted on two goals. Redshirt junior keeper Paulo Pita recorded five saves in the shutout and senior Ben Martinez came in to play the final 22 minutes in the victory.

Rylah now leads the team with three goals and is tied with junior Jonas Westmeyer for the lead in points with seven. Six different players have scored at least two goals for the Herd while four more have added one goal each. Pita now has 35 saves this season.

The Wildcats have been working its way through the rankings in 2018. On Sept. 4, UK defeated then No. 6 Louisville, 3-0. Then on Oct. 3, the squad took down then No. 2 Indiana, also 3-0. The only loss this season came in Kentucky's last match on Oct. 7, against Conference USA preseason favorite FIU, 3-2.

UK has outscored its competition 21-6 this season. Seven different players have scored including J.J. Williams leading the way with nine, which is tied for 15th in the nation. Kalil El Medkhar is next with four goals but also has five assists. The Wildcats have recorded 131 shots with 68 on goal. Keeper Enrique Facusse is seventh in the country in goals against average with a mere 0.53. Facusse has 35 saves, just six goals allowed and has recorded eight shutouts out of 11 matches.

Marshall has played Kentucky more times than against any other program in the history of the team. This will be the 39th all-time meeting in a series that dates back to 1981, a 3-1 Herd win. The Wildcats lead the all-time series 19-16-3. Marshall defeated the Wildcats at Hoops Family Field, 1-0, in 2017 for the squad's first win over UK since 2011. The Herd then grabbed a 1-0 win over Kentucky in the Conference USA Tournament.

Marshall returns to Hoops Family Field on Oct. 16 against Northern Kentucky.
