New Mexico is just ahead of Marshall in the C-USA standings in points, 6-4. The Herd currently sits in seventh place with Florida Atlantic and South Carolina trailing. Marshall still has to play both of those teams as South Carolina is next (Oct. 30) and then the senior night, home finale against the Owls (Nov. 3). The top seven teams advance to the conference tournament, hosted by Charlotte, Nov. 7-11.

Saturday's match is the seventh all-time meeting between Marshall and New Mexico. The Lobos lead the series 3-1-2. The series began in 2002, a 3-0 New Mexico win in Las Vegas. The teams have met every season since 2013 when the Lobos joined Conference USA. The Herd's lone win came in Albuquerque in 2014 (2-1). New Mexico won the most recent matchup, 2-1, in Huntington in 2017.
