BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Marshall women's basketball team fell in its first road game of the 2018-19 season, 99-76, to the Bowling Green Falcons Tuesday night in the Stroh Center. Senior Shayna Gore scored 34 points and moved into fourth place all-time in career scoring.

The Thundering Herd is now 0-2 to start the year and the Falcons improve to 1-1.

Bowling Green received a hot-shooting night finishing at 55.4 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from three. Marshall shot 38.2 percent from the floor and 28.9 percent from three. Bowling Green scored 34 points in the paint to Marshall's 24

"We have to get back to work on our interior defense," Herd head coach Tony Kemper said. "They took advantage of the size difference. And you have to tip your hat to them. They shot really well tonight.

"I liked our fight late, but we have some things to fix so that we can be a better basketball team."

Gore led all Marshall scorers with a career-high 34 points and passed Tynikki Crook (2007-11) on the all-time Marshall scoring list. Next up in third place is recent Marshall Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Sikeetha Shepard-Hall (2002-06) with 1,609. Gore has 1,485.

Freshman Kia Sivils put up 12 points with three assists and no turnovers in 25 minutes of work at the point. Redshirt senior Taylor Porter scored 10 points and added four rebounds.

For the Falcons, freshman Morgan McMillen finished with 32 points and hit eight three-pointers to lead the way.

The Herd battled back in the second half and brought the deficit down to 11 with 7:44 remaining in the game. Marshall hit back-to-back-to-back three's by Sivils, junior Princess Clemons and Gore, that led to a Falcons timeout. Bowling Green then regained control of the contest and built the lead back out to 20.

Marshall heads back out on the road Saturday, Nov. 17 at Southern Illinois. Tipoff against the Salukis is set for 3 p.m. eastern.
