Last time out - at Southern Illinois Nov. 17, 2018 - L, 58-49
Marshall's defense played well against the Salukis but struggled to find its rhythm on offense. The Herd held SIU to shooting just 35.2 percent (19-54) from the floor and 18.8 percent (3-16) from outside. On offense, Marshall hit 33.9 percent (19-56) from the field and 14.3 percent (3-21) from three. The Herd's defense held Southern Illinois without a point for a seven minute span from the end of the first quarter through almost the first six minutes of the second quarter. Sophomores Kristen Mayo and Taylor Pearson led Marshall with 10 points each. Redshirt senior Taylor Porter scored eight points and tied a career-high with eight rebounds. Freshman guard Kia Sivils grabbed a season-best six rebounds with five coming on the offensive end. Senior Shayna Gore (five points) was held under double-digits scoring since putting up nine points on Dec. 10, 2017 at Florida. It stopped a span of 22-straight games.

Scouting the Big Blues
Bluefield State is 3-2 to begin the 2018-19 season with wins over Alfred State (81-52), Campbellsville University-Harrodsburg (79-71) and Kentucky Christian (80-60). The Big Blues are coming off a 90-70 loss at Rio Grande. The Red Storm shot 48.5 percent (33-68) from the floor, hit seven three-pointers and forced 21 Bluefield State turnovers. Head coach Ryan Bailey is in his second season at the helm and already has as many wins as last season. Bluefield State finished the 2017-18 season with a record of 3-23. Freshman forward Kylah Webb leads the team in scoring with 10.5 points per game. Webb had a season-high 16 points and grabbed nine boards in the win over KCU and followed up with 12 at Rio Grande. Senior Lyndsay Hatfield leads the squad with 7.5 rebounds per contest including a season-best 11 against Alfred State and has 500 total boards in her career.

The Series: Three meetings, Marshall leads 3-0
Marshall and Bluefield State have only met three times in a series that dates back to Feb. 18, 1976. The Herd won the first contest, 100-28, at the West Virginia State Tournament that was played in Buckhannon, W.Va. The second meeting came 12 years later on Nov. 26, 1988, as Marshall won 84-41 at home. The last meeting was almost 18 years ago on Dec. 9, 2000. The Herd won 77-61 in the Henderson Center.

Following the Tuesday afternoon game, The Herd hits the road again and heads south to take on the Appalachian State Mountaineers. Tipoff from the Holmes Convocation Center is Sunday, Nov. 25 at 2 p.m.
