Herd looks for first SEC victory since 1999

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Herd men's basketball continues its five-game road trip as it prepares to take on Texas A&M Saturday (Dec. 22).
HAVE YOU HERD
Senior guard Jon Elmore needs eight assists to pass Mike D'Antoni for second most in program history.
Senior guard C.J. Burks has scored at least 10 points in all 11 games this season.
Elmore has reached double-figure scoring in 100 of his 107 games in a Marshall uniform.
The Herd's last win over an SEC opponent came on Dec. 18, 1999, 89-79 over Georgia in Huntington.
Marshall's last road SEC win came on Dec. 7, 1989, in College Station over the Aggies, 69-66.
The Herd is 10-29 all-time against teams currently in the SEC.
Marshall's 23 bench points were the most this season since its opening game at Eastern Kentucky when it scored 24 points off the bench.
The Herd has forced more turnovers than its opponent in nine of the 11 games this season.
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
Texas A&M comes into the contest 5-4 and is on a four-game win streak. The Aggies have lost just one game at home in 74-73 loss to UC Irvine. Texas A&M shoots 43.9 percent from the field, but has only made 27.7 percent of its shots from beyond the arc. The Aggies hold its opponents to a 38.9 shooting percentage from the field. Texas A&M was picked to finish 12th by the media in the 2018-19 SEC Preseason Poll.
WHO TO KNOW
TJ Starks leads the Aggies in scoring (13 points per game) and assists (35). Starks has taken 123 shot attempts and 51 three-point attempts, both team highs.
Savion Flagg averages a team-high seven rebounds per game while being second on the squad in scoring with 12.1 points per contest and steals with 12.
Chrsistian Mekowulu averages 10.3 points per game, third most on the team. He leads the Aggies in shooting percentage (53.6 percent) and brings down six boards per game, second most for the Aggies.
