Weiss Picks Up Trophy at Pinehurst Intercollegiate

PINEHURST, N.C. - Marshall men's golf senior golfer Alex Weiss finished the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in second place after shooting an overall score of 4-over-ar 217 after three rounds.
The score helped Weiss earn his first trophy of the spring season, while the Marshall men's finished at ninth place with a score of 64-over 916.
Weiss' third round was highlighted by a birdie on the 16th hole, while he shot for par on 16 of 18 holes in the final round. Overall, Weiss' 45 pars led the individuals and his overall score of 1-under on par 3s was second among the field. Finishing behind Weiss were Ben Roeder and Cameron Root. Roeder finished the tournament with a 20-over 233 for a tie at 45th place, while Root finished in a tie for 49th after shooting a 21-over 234.
Individually, Ball State's Michael VanDeventer beat Weiss by two strokes. Among the teams, Radford edged out Ball state by one stroke with an overall score of 886, good for 34-over-par.
Up next, the men's golf team will compete in the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate in Sevierville, Tenn., from March 19-21.
