HERD HEADS TO CHARLESTON FOR C-USA OPENER

CHARLESTON, W.Va.-The Thundering Herd baseball team will travel to Appalachian Power Park this weekend for its first Conference USA matchup against the Blazers of UAB. The Herd will look to continue a strong 3-1 home start that moved Marshall to 10-4 on the season. Game one will take place Friday at 4 p.m., Game two will be Saturday at 3 p.m., and the series will be capped off Sunday at 12 p.m.

Friday vs. UAB RHP Wade Martin (0-1 4.35 ERA) vs. RHP Tanner Graham (0-2 2.75 ERA)
Saturday vs. UAB RHP Brad O'Connor (2-2 4.35 ERA) vs. RHP Tyler Gates (1-0 0.00 ERA)
Sunday vs. UAB RHP Will Ray (1-0 1.19 ERA) vs. RHP Ryan Wesson (2-1 1.99 ERA)
HAVE YOU HERD?
--Left fielder Tucker Linder leads the Herd with a .380 batting average in fourteen starts.
--First baseman Shane Hanon holds a team-high 22 hits and 11 walks.
--Shortstop Geordon Blanton is 10-10 when attempting to steal a base this year.
--Catcher Dakota Robbins has 15 RBIs and 14 runs off of 14 hits this season.
SCOUTING UAB
UAB comes to Charleston having lost four of its last five games.
--Carter Pharis leads the Blazers with a .273 batting average over 15 games.
--Zack Davis has a team-high 12 runs and four extra base hits. Davis and Pharis are the only UAB batters with a home run this year.
--Tyler Tolbert is 9-10 when trying to steal, and will be drawing a lot of attention from the mound if he gets on base
--Saturday starter Tyler Gates has allowed no runs and just four hits over 7.2 innings this season. Gates game against Marshall will be his second start of the season.
