San Antonio, TX-The Thundering Herd baseball team fell 12-2 to UTSA in eight innings Sunday due to the run rule.

The loss moved Marshall to 11-9 (1-5 C-USA) on the season. The Roadrunners improved to above .500 and now sit at 11-10 (3-2 C-USA).

Starting pitcher Will Ray was handed his first loss of the season to move to 2-1 on the year. Ray pitched 2 2/3 innings allowing six hits, three runs (three earned), and striking out three batters with one walk before he was pulled due to an undisclosed injury.

UTSA Starting pitcher Chance Kirby moved to 2-2 on the season. Kirby pitched six innings allowing four hits, one run (earned), and striking out three with one walk.

Right fielder Andrew Zban led the way for the Herd offensively with two hits and a run before being pulled late in the game after going down with a hamstring injury in the early innings. First baseman Peter Hutzal hit his second home run of the season for a hit, run, and RBI.

The Roadrunners jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the course of the first three innings thanks to a run in the second inning and two more in the third.

The Herd responded in the top of the fourth when Reynaldo Pastrana hit an RBI double to score Zban from second to make the score 3-1 UTSA.

The Roadrunners added five more runs in the bottom of the fifth and then three more in the sixth to make the score 11-1.

A solo homer by Hutzal over the right field wall kept the Herd alive for another inning, but a run by UTSA in the bottom of the eighth triggered the 10-run rule and the game was over. Final score 12-2 UTSA.

Marshall finished with two runs off of six hits and no errors. UTSA had 12 runs off of 15 hits with no errors.

The Herd will be back in West Virginia this weekend to take on one of C-USA's top teams in Florida Atlantic University at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston.
