HERD SHUTOUT 6-0 BY CHARLOTTE IN GAME TWO

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--The Thundering Herd baseball team was shutout in Saturday's game against Charlotte 6-0. The Herd's offense was stifled by the 49er's pitching staff, going three up, three down in five innings.
The loss moves Marshall to 19-27 (7-18 C-USA) on the season. Charlotte improved to 29-20 (15-11 C-USA).
Reynaldo Pastrana and Cameron Collett were the most effective bats of the day for The Herd. Both had two hits each, accounting for four of Marshall's six total hits in game two. Andrew Zban and Erik Rodriguez were the only other members of the team to record a hit.
Starting pitcher Joshua Shapiro moved to 2-4 on the season in 5 1/3 innings. Shapiro allowed 11 hits, six runs (six earned), while recording two strikeouts to four walks. 49er's starter Matt Brooks earned the win to move to 3-6 on the season. Brooks went six innings allowing six hits, no runs, with four strikeouts and just one walk.
Charlotte took the lead in the second inning with two runs, before making it a 3-0 game in the bottom of the third. Three more runs by the 49ers in the sixth inning was all the scoring done Saturday, as The Herd was kept off the scoreboard all nine innings.
Marshall finished the day with no runs off of six hits with one error. Charlotte had six runs off 11 hits with no errors.
Up next The Herd will try to avoid the sweep Sunday at 1 p.m. against the 49ers before traveling to Morgantown Tuesday to play the Mountaineers.
