ATHENS, Ohio – The Marshall women's soccer team is back on the road to take on one of its longest running rivals, the Ohio Bobcats. Kickoff is set for Sunday at 1 p.m., from Chessa Field.

The Thundering Herd is 1-2-1 and the Bobcats enter with a record of 1-3-1.

Marshall is coming off a 2-1 win over the Eastern Kentucky Colonels Friday on Senior Night. Farah Abu-Tayeh scored her third goal of the season to tie the match at 1-1, and then just moments later, she assisted on a goal scored by her twin sister Marah Abu-Tayeh to give the Herd the lead. Marshall held on for the rest of the contest to earn its first win of the season. Junior keeper Megan Bonelli recorded four more saves in the win, giving her 137 for her career.

Ohio is looking to get back on the winning track after a tie and two losses that followed the squads first win of the season against Robert Morris on Aug. 19. The tie came against Lipscomb (0-0), and then the Bobcats fell to Vanderbilt (2-1) and Northern Kentucky (3-2). Freshman Abby Townsend leads the team with two goals and one assist. Sophomore Sarina Dirrig, senior Madelyn Kah and junior Alivia Milesky have all scored one goal each. Senior Erin Beurket and sophomore Sydney Malham have split time in goal for the Bobcats. Beurket has logged 270 minutes with 15 saves and seven goals allowed. Malham has 202 minutes with seven saves and zero goals allowed.

This will be the 15th meeting all-time between the two regional rivals. Ohio leads the series 10-2-2. The first time the schools met was Oct. 31, 1998 in Huntington, the first year of the program for Marshall. The Herd and the Bobcats met each season from 1998-2004 until Marshall left the Mid-American Conference for Conference USA. The Herd's first win over Ohio came in 2009 with a 1-0 victory at home. The last time these two teams met was on Sept. 9, 2016, in Athens and played to a 2-2 draw.

After Marshall plays the Bobcats, the Herd hits the road again on a swing into North Carolina. Marshall will take on High Point University on Sept. 7, and then play Gardner-Webb on Sept. 9.
