Men’s Basketball Closes Three-Game Homestand Against FIU

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Herd men's basketball looks to finish a three-game homestand with an unblemished record as it hosts Florida International Saturday (Jan. 19) night.
HAVE YOU HERD
Jon Elmore made eight field goals against FAU, pushing his career total to 671. He passed Western Kentucky's Justin Johnson for sixth place on the league's all-time list.
Elmore's four 3-pointers moved him past Middle Tennessee's Giddy Potts and tied him with Memphis' Rodney Carney for No. 5 in league history.
Elmore now has 287 3-pointers, which is six behind Austin Loop for the Marshall school record.
Elmore also passed John Taft for the most free-throw attempts in school history with 736. Taft (1987-91) had 734 in his career.
C.J. Burks became the eighth player in Marshall history to attempt 500 3-pointers in a career. Burks now has 505.
Marshall extended its win streak against Conference USA competition to eight games.
The Herd has won 29 consecutive games when leading at the half.
Jannson Williams collected his ninth game of the season of 10 or more points against FAU.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
Florida International comes into the contest with a record of 12-6, including a 3-2 record in Conference USA action.
The Panthers are coming off a 77-76 victory at Western Kentucky after they trailed by 16 points.
FIU leads C-USA in scoring with 87.8 points per game and has an average scoring margin of 7.6.
The Panthers have been outrebounded by their opponents, by an average of 7.4 boards per contest.
FIU only turns the ball over about 14 times per game.
WHO TO KNOW
Brian Beard, Jr. is the offensive leader for Florida International at 19.3 points per game. Beard, Jr. has taken and made the most shots from the field for the Panthers. He has also been a force on the defensive end of the court with a team-leading 60 steals.
Devon Andrews leads the team in shooting percentage with a 54.4 percentage from the field. Andrews is the team's second-leading scorer with 13.9 points per contest and is second behind Beard Jr. in steals with 30.
Osasumw Osaghae is FIU's leading rebounder with 7.9 boards per game and has 42 of the team's 82 blocks.
