CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Marshall men's soccer team begins its six-match road swing on Saturday at No. 5 Charlotte. Kickoff from Transamerica Field is set for 7 p.m.
 
The Thundering Herd, receiving votes for the third-straight week, enters the match with an 8-1-1 overall record and 3-0 in Conference USA. The fifth-ranked 49ers come in with an 8-0-2 overall record and 3-0-1 in conference play.

The Herd is coming off back-to-back shutouts over Dayton (2-0) and UAB (6-0). Seven different players scored for Marshall in the wins, with the eighth goal as an own goal by the Dayton Flyers. The Herd has been receiving votes in the NCAA/United Soccer Coaches poll for the past three weeks. Sept. 24 was the first time that Marshall received votes this season, and it was the first time since Sept. 24, 2001. The Herd was ranked 26th overall 18 years ago and then the team broke into the Top 25 for the first, and so far only time in program history, ranked No. 23 on Oct. 1, 2001. Marshall was ranked in the top 25 for just that one week.
 
Marshall has outscored its opponents 26-8 and 10 different players have scored at least one goal. Redshirt freshman Milo Yosef leads the team with six goals and is second with 12 points. Junior Jamil Roberts leads the team in assists (7) and points (13). Roberts is tied for ninth all-time in program history with 12 career assists. Junior Pedro Dolabella has four goals and three assists. Marshall has outshot the opposition 138-89 and 65-42 in shots on goal.
 
In the net, redshirt senior keeper Paulo Pita has been rock-steady playing all 920 minutes this year. He has allowed just eight goals in 10 matches and sports a 0.78 goals against average. Pita has recorded 32 saves and has a .800 save percentage to go only with four shutouts. The senior keeper now has 7.5 shutouts in his career at Marshall.
 
Opponent
Charlotte has been steadily moving its way up the national rankings all the way to fifth overall. The 49ers have yet to lose and have two ties against No. 25 WVU and No. 17 Kentucky. Charlotte has won its last five contests with the most recent, a 3-1 victory at Florida Atlantic.
 
Head coach Kevin Langan is in his eighth season at the helm and has an overall record of 94-34-22. The 49ers have outscored the competition 22-7 this season and also have 10 different players who have scored at least one goal. Teddy Chaouche leads the team with six goals, seven assists and 19 points. Chaouche has 22 total shots with 17 on goal, good for .773 percent. Joe Brito has netted two game-winners this year, and was the player who hit the game-winner with one minute and four seconds to go against Marshall in 2018.
 
Keeper Elliot Panicco has logged all 957 minutes in goal and has allowed just seven goals. Panicco sports a 0.66 goals against average, has 16 saves, a .696 save percentage and four shutouts.
 
Up Next
Marshall stays on the road traveling out to Loyola Marymount (Oct. 15), San Diego State (Oct. 18), Wright State (Oct. 22), Florida Atlantic (Oct. 26) and Oakland (Oct. 29) before finally returning to Hoops Family Field on Nov. 3 against Kentucky.
