KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Marshall women's golf team is fifth overall out of 22 teams after the first round of the Palmetto Intercollegiate, Sunday afternoon from Turtle Point Golf Course.
The Thundering Herd finished with a team score of 5-over (293) and is just four shots back of second place, and 10 shots behind the leader.
"We played well today and I was excited to see us play the way I knew we could," Herd head coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "I'm excited to see us play great again tomorrow."
Junior Kerri Parks scored a 1-under 71, hit two birdies out of her last three holes, and is tied for eighth place. Senior Shelby Brauckmuller scored three birdies on the back-nine to help her finish with an even par, 72, and is tied for 14th. Junior Stormy Randazzo also earned three birdies on the back-nine and finished the day with a 1-over 73, good for tied at 20th.
North Florida had a great day as a team with a 5-under, 283, and hold a six-stroke lead over College of Charleston and Fresno State. Claire Vermette of Jacksonville State and Daniela Gonzalez of North Florida are tied for the lead after shooting a 4-under 68 on Sunday.
