HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall baseball concludes the fall with an exhibition game on Thursday (Oct. 17) at 2:30 p.m. against the Toronto Mets. Action will take place at the Kennedy Center on Route 2.

"We knew in the fall we'd make some mistakes," Marshall head coach Jeff Waggoner said about his team's performance to this point in the fall. "But it's given us an opportunity in practice to correct the mistakes. It was more about competing and putting in team philosophies in individual play. I want to see how the team responds to a team that isn't as good as West Virginia."

The Toronto Mets are based out of Canada and have teams ranging from 15u to 18u. Current Thundering Herd pitcher Ryan Capuano, catcher Ryan Leitch and outfielder Zach Gardiner have come out of the program.

Last season Marshall finished with a 29-28 record ending the season with an appearance at the 2019 Conference USA Championship in Biloxi, Miss. MU earned a 6-4 victory over third-seeded Louisiana Tech in the opening game of the tournament.

The Herd didn't lose a series at home during the 2019 campaign putting up a 17-7 record at the Kennedy Center and dropping just four home C-USA games, including a series sweep of Rice in the final three games of the regular season.

Marshall also had Joshua Shapiro and Elvis Peralta, Jr., taken in the 2019 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers and Oakland A's, respectively. Peralta was named first-team all-conference, while Shapiro was on the second-team.
