No. 15 Men’s Soccer Heads South for C-USA Match at Florida Atlantic

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The 15th-ranked Marshall men's soccer team is back on the road once again to take on Florida Atlantic in Conference USA action. Kickoff from FAU Soccer Stadium is scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m.
The Thundering Herd enters the match 10-1-3 overall and 3-0-1 in C-USA. The Owls enter at 4-6-1 and 0-4-0 in conference.

Last Meeting: Nov. 3, 2018 in Huntington – Marshall won 5-1 on senior day.
Marshall comes in to the match with its highest ranking in program history at No. 15. The Herd played to a double-overtime draw, 2-2, at Wright State on Tuesday. Sophomore Vitor Dias scored his third goal of the season and junior Pedro Dolabella scored his sixth. Marshall took the lead, 2-1, in the 86th minute and then the Raiders scored the equalizer less than one minute later.
The Herd has outscored its opposition 37-12. Redshirt freshman Milo Yosef leads the team with 10 goals which is also tops in C-USA and tied for 10th in the NCAA in total goals. Dolabella is second while junior Jamil Roberts and sophomore Jan-Erik Leinhos are tied for third with four each. Ten players have scored at least one goal this season and eight have scored two or more as Marshall's offense has exploded this year. The Herd scored 32 total goals in 2018 in 20 matches. Marshall still has four regular season matches to go in 2019 and has already surpassed last season's total by five goals in 14 matches
Roberts remains the team leader in assists with a career-high nine, which leads C-USA and is tied for third in the NCAA. Senior Jonas Westmeyer is second on the team with seven assists, tied for second in conference and tied for 15th in the country.
Redshirt senior keeper Paulo Pita keeps right on rolling in net for the Herd, playing every minute this season (1,320). Pita has five shutouts amongst his 10 victories. He sports a 0.82 goals against average which is second-best in conference and 21st in the NCAA. His .774 save percentage is third in C-USA and 42nd in the nation. Pita has tallied 41 saves.
Opponent
The Florida Atlantic Owls come in looking for its first conference win of the season. The Owls fell to FIU, No. 21 Kentucky, No. 9 Charlotte and South Carolina in league action. The loss at South Carolina was also the most recent match for FAU back on Sunday. Following the match against the Herd, the Owls travel to North Florida (Oct. 30), then to UAB (Nov. 2) before returning to Boca Raton to face Old Dominion for the regular season finale. The Owls began the 2019 season with a 1-0 win over then No. 17 James Madison.
FAU has been outscored 24-16 this season. Nine different players have scored at least one goal and three players have scored two or more. Ivan Mykhailenko leads the team in scoring with six goals and three assists for a total of 15 points. Jose Alastuey and David Schwartzman are next with two each. Alex Alexis leads the Owls in assists with six.
Daniel Ragoo and Hagay Jalon have split time in the net this season. Ragoo has appeared in seven matches, is 2-2-1 and has 596 minutes. He has also been in goal for the last three matches. Jalon has appeared in five matches, is 2-3-0 with 418 minutes and has not played since the loss to Charlotte on Oct. 5. Both players carry a goals against average over 2.00.

Marshall stays on the road for a trip up to Rochester, Mich., to face the Oakland Golden Grizzlies on Tuesday Oct. 29. The Herd then finally returns to Hoops Family Field after spending six matches on the road with a date against No. 16 Kentucky on Sunday, Nov. 3. Marshall then finishes the regular season at No. 11 FIU on Nov. 8.
