Redshirt junior tallied 21 kills in win over UAB
IRVING, Texas – Marshall volleyball redshirt junior Ciara Debell was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Debell has now been honored for the third time this season and in back-to-back weeks as well.
Â
"What an awesome honor to finish out the regular season for Ciara," first-year Herd head coach Ari Aganus said "It's a true testament to our team and the confidence we have in her. Watching her progress this season has been really fun, we're excited to see what the weekend holds at the CUSA Tournament!"
Â
Debell cranked out 21 kills in Marshall's regular season finale win over UAB. It was her third-straight match with at least 21 kills. She had just three errors in 46 total attacks and finished with a .391 hitting percentage. Debell added 10 digs for her 12th double-double of the year.
Â
The Ocala, Fla., native took over in the fourth set to close out the win for Marshall. The Herd won the first two sets and then the Blazers took the third. Debell registered 10 kills in the fourth frame including four during a 7-0 run in the middle of the set. She rose to the top again at the finish with the final two points of the day on kills.
Â
During Marshall's six-match winning streak to end the regular season, Debell totaled 109 kills including 69 in the last three. She had a hitting percentage over .300 in five of the matches and had four double-doubles with 10 or more digs against Louisiana Tech, Charlotte, FIU and UAB.
Â
The Herd earned the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Conference USA Tournament, Nov. 22-24. Marshall will play against No. 5 seed Florida Atlantic in the first round on Friday, Nov. 22 at 3 p.m. eastern.
