Debell Named All-Conference USA First Team

Debell’s second all-conference honor
HOUSTON, Texas – Marshall volleyball redshirt junior Ciara Debell was named to the All-Conference USA First Team, the league office announced Wednesday. For Debell it is her second all-conference honor in as many years as she was named to the second team in 2018.

Debell, in her second season at Marshall, has helped lead the Herd back to the C-USA Tournament and as the No. 4 seed after being predicted to finish 10th in the preseason poll. Marshall also made a big jump into the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Top 100 list. The Herd is one of four teams from C-USA to make it in the list along with WKU, Rice and Florida Atlantic.

The Ocala, Fla., native leads the team with 414 kills making it back-to-back seasons with over 400. She is averaging 4.22 kills per set which is good for third in the conference. She has also been responsible for 4.83 points per set, second in the league. Debell has been an all-around performer for Marshall as she is second on the team with 248 digs, third in total blocks with 72 and has added another 16 service aces.

The redshirt junior has been honored three times this season as Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week. Her first came back on Sept. 9 after dominating at the Bulldog Invitational hosted at Georgetown. She was named the MVP of the tournament after recording 47 kills in 11 sets, an average of 4.27 per set, to go along with 28 digs, nine total blocks and three aces. Debell helped Marshall to go 3-0 in the tournament.

Debell was also named conference player of the week for the past two weeks to end the regular season. During a road swing down in Florida, the outside hitter tallied 27 kills in a five-set win at FIU, and 21 more kills in another five-set win at FAU. In the final match of the year, Debell came through again with 21 more kills in the four-set win over UAB at home. She recorded 10 of those in the fourth set to secure the win and the four-seed for the Herd.

Debell has had 24 matches this season with 10 or more kills and five with 20 or more, including the last three. She has also had 12 double-doubles this season with 10 or more kills and digs in the same match.

In her career, Debell has tallied 851 kills during her now two seasons at Marshall. She has 937 total including her time at Florida Gulf Coast. Debell has tallied 486 digs and 119 blocks in her time so far with the Green and White.

Marshall volleyball will be back in action in the first round of the Conference USA Tournament on Friday, Nov. 22 at 3 p.m. eastern, against No. 5 seed Florida Atlantic.
