EVANSVILLE, In.
– The Evansville women's basketball team got 52 points from the trio of Jada Poland (19), Abby Feit (17) and A'Niah Griffin (16) to hold off a game Marshall team 66-62 in overtime Sunday at the Meeks Family Fieldhouse.

Feit also had a game-high nine rebounds, while Poland made seven of her 11 field goal attempts. Griffin made just three of hers (3-for-18), including 2-for-11 from the 3-point line.

Marshall was led by 15 points from Khadaijia Brooks, followed by 14 from Kristen Mayo and 12 off the bench from Savannah Wheeler. Kia Sivils had a team-high five assists and Ashley Saintigene posted three blocks.

Both teams had 11-point leads in the game. Marshall held a 14-3 advantage on a Taylor Pearson 3-pointer with 4:19 left in the first quarter but the Purple Aces ran off 26 of the game's next 37 points to take a five-point lead (29-25) into the second half.

Marshall trailed by 11 (46-35) on a Poland layup with just 2:11 left in the third quarter, but roared to a 12-0 run in the balance of the stanza, capped by a Wheeler triple as time expired. That shot gave Marshall a one-point (47-46) lead heading into the final quarter.

Evansville still held a seven-point lead (60-53) with 2:27 left in the fourth period, but again, Marshall came back and forced overtime on a Brooks jumper with just five seconds left. Evansville was unable to get off a shot on the ensuing possession and the game went to an extra session.

With the game knotted at 62 in overtime, Feit scooped up a loose ball in the lane and converted a layup to put UE ahead by two with 57 seconds left. Marshall's Wheeler then misfired from the perimeter after a timeout and Griffin made two free throws for the final margin.

Marshall held a commanding edge on bench points (25-8).

"Overall, our execution was pretty good … not so much in overtime," said Marshall head coach Tony Kemper. "I think we are learning, based on how it was at the end, but that one hurts. They all hurt. It doesn't matter who you play."

The two teams also went to overtime last season, with Marshall scoring a 72-65 victory on November 29 in Huntington.

The Thundering Herd will be back in action Wednesday in Huntington against Alderson Broaddus. Tip time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
