Women’s Basketball Back in Action against Alderson Broaddus

Tipoff between Herd and Battlers set for Wednesday at 6 p.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall women's basketball team is back in the Cam Henderson Center to take on the Alderson Broaddus Battlers, Wednesday at 6 p.m.
The Thundering Herd comes in with a record of 3-3. The Battlers enter at 1-3.

Series History: First ever meeting
Marshall is looking to bounce back from a two-game losing skid after falling to Morgan State at home and in overtime to Evansville on the road. In the loss to the Purple Aces, redshirt senior Khadaijia Brooks led the team in scoring with 15 points. Brooks grabbed two rebounds and continued her streak of consecutive games played with at least one board to 69-straight. Junior Kristen Mayo got back into double-figures with 14 points and freshman Savannah Wheeler had 12. Junior Taylor Pearson led the Herd in rebounds with seven.
Senior Ashley Saintigene added three more blocks to bring her season total to 19. Her final block of the contest also gave her 100 for her career. Saintigene is the seventh player in program history to record 100 swats in a career.
Wheeler still leads the team in scoring with 13.2 per game, and has 79 points this season. Mayo (11.8), Brooks (11.3) and Pearson (11.0) are all averaging double-figures as well. The Herd is shooting 39.8 percent from the field and 33.6 percent from three. Marshall has struggled from the line hitting just 57.4 percent.
The Herd has been tough on the glass averaging 43.2 rebounds per game, a two-board per contest margin over the competition. Marshall has three players pulling down at least six boards a game in Pearson (6.7), Saintigene (6.5) and Brooks (6.3).
The Herd is even this season in the turnover category with 99 forced and 99 committed. The defense has played well and has kept the team in games when the offense struggles. Opponents are shooting just 31.5 percent from the field and 29.9 percent from three. However, teams are hitting 70.5 percent from the line. The Herd has nabbed nine more steals (59-50) and has out-blocked the opposition by a wide margin, 40-16.

The Alderson Broaddus Battlers are NCAA Division II, play in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, and come from Philippi, W.Va. The Battlers have struggled to begin the year with losses to the University of Indianapolis and Lake Superior State University. Alderson Broaddus then defeated the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and then fell to Fairmont State.
Hannah Henderson has been the team leader this season averaging 19.5 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per contest as well. Henderson is shooting 59.6 percent from the floor and is 6-of-9 from three. Shay Harper is averaging 12.3 points per game and Yolanda Florido is scoring 11.5 per contest.
As a team, the Battlers are shooting 42.6 from the floor and 35.6 percent from three. They are however allowing opponents to shoot 45.8 percent from the field and 31.9 percent from three-point range. Alderson Broaddus is also losing the rebounding margin by 4.5 per game, with the squad averaging just 31.8 boards per game.
