Senior libero has 10 or more digs in 27-straight matches
IRVING, Texas – Marshall volleyball senior libero Amber Weber was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. It was Weber's first weekly honor of the season and second of her career.
Â
"I am so proud of Amber and excited about this accolade she earned," Herd head coach Ari Aganus said. "She's one of the toughest players I've ever had the opportunity to coach. Amber's passion is one of her greatest qualities and pushes her on the court to be such an amazing libero."Â
Â
In the Herd's two sweeps this past weekend, Weber tallied 37 total digs and continued her consecutive matches streak with at least 10 digs to 27-straight going back to last season. In the win over Louisiana Tech Weber had 12 digs and added eight assists as she helped direct around her teammates from defense into the attack. The Lady Techsters struggled against Marshall's defense and had a team hitting percentage of .082.
Â
Against Charlotte, the senior came through clutch for Marshall with 25 digs in the three-set victory. Weber averaged 8.33 digs per set in the win. Her defensive play with several diving attempts, helped bring down the 49ers hitting percentage to .136.
Â
Weber has increased her season digs total to 415 with an average of 4.94 per set. She is now up to 1,315 in her career and 1,189 during her time at Marshall with 960 coming in the last two seasons.
Â
Marshall has three regular season matches remaining with two on the road at FIU (Nov. 8), at Florida Atlantic (Nov. 10) and back at home against UAB on Nov. 14 for Senior Day.
