Marshall is coming off an 82-69 home loss to the Bowling Green Falcons. Junior Kristen Mayo set a personal-best with 21 points and added three assists. Redshirt junior Khadaijia Brooks recorded her first double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 boards. Brooks also continued her rebounding streak to 72-straight games. Freshman Savannah Wheeler scored in double-figures (11) for the eighth time in nine games. The Herd struggled to get its shots to fall while the Falcons were able to convert against a swarming Marshall defense.

Senior Ashley Saintigene added three more blocks to her total in the loss to BGSU and now has 30 this year. She sits in sixth place in the NCAA in total blocks and eighth in blocks per game (3.33). Saintigene's career total is now at 111, just five away from passing Chukwuka Ezeigbo (2011-15) for sixth all-time in program history.

As a team, Marshall ranks in the top 50 in the NCAA this season in eight categories. The Herd is fourth in total blocks (57), fifth in blocks per game (6.3), 18th in field goal percentage defense (33.5 percent), 19th in three-point field goals made per game (8.8), 28th in three-pointers attempted (234), 30th in three-pointers made (79), 30th in defensive rebounds per game (29.7) and 45th in rebounds per game (43.11).

Opponent
Rutgers comes in with a 9-1 record, the lone loss at LSU. The Scarlet Knights have had a lot of success on the defensive side. Only two opponents have scored more than 60 points in a game, and none more than 64. The LSU Tigers defeated Rutgers 64-58. Also, four opponents have been held to under 50. The Scarlet Knights sport the seventh ranked scoring defense in the NCAA, allowing just 50.9 points per game. Rutgers is also seventh in field goal percentage defense at 31.0 percent. Coach Vivian Stringer has the Scarlet Knights playing well to begin the year after going 22-10 last season and yet another NCAA Tournament appearance.

Rutgers is coming off a 78-58 win over Southern on Thursday. Arella Guirantes played right to her season average with 19 points and also had three blocks. Southern shot 44.9 percent in the game, but the Scarlet Knights hit on 53.8 percent from the field and was 15-of-22 from the line. Rutgers won the rebounding battle by 11 and forced 22 turnovers. Tekia Mack is the only other player averaging double-figure with 15.1 points per game. Guirantes leads in rebounds with 7.1 rebounds per game.
