Series History: 3rd all-time meeting – Series is tied at 1-1.
Last Meeting: Dec. 22, 2018 in Huntington – Towson won 76-69.
Marshall is coming off back-to-back losses to Bowling Green (82-69) at home and on the road to (RV) Rutgers (66-41). The Herd is trying to get back on the winning side and finish strong in non-conference play.
The Herd got out to a rough start at Rutgers, down 24-2 after the first quarter, but showed plenty of fight throughout the rest of the game with just a minus-3 point differential over the final three quarters. Freshman Savannah Wheeler led all scorers with 15 points, all of which came in the second half including 10 in the fourth quarter. Senior Princess Clemons led Marshall with seven rebounds and three assists. The Herd defense forced four Scarlet Knight turnovers in the fourth quarter and sophomore Kia Sivils had two steals.
Senior Ashley Saintigene swatted two more shots at Rutgers bringing her season total to 32. She is still ranked in the top 10 in the NCAA in total blocks and blocks per game. Saintigene needs just three blocks more to pass Chukwuka Ezeigbo (2011-15) for sixth place all-time in program history.
Redshirt senior Khadaijia Brooks continued her rebounding streak to 73-straight with two boards at Rutgers. Junior Kristen Mayo also kept a streak going of now 63-straight games with an assist. The last time Mayo did not have an assist was Dec. 6, 2017 vs. Morgan State of her freshman year.
Marshall also learned who its final four opponents of the 2019-20 regular season will be as Conference USA released the end of its schedule. The Herd's final regular season games will be at home versus Old Dominion on Feb. 22, home versus North Texas on Feb. 29, on the road at FIU on March 5, and on the road at Florida Atlantic on March 7.
The new schedule format was passed by the league's Athletic Directors and Board of Directors over the summer. It follows the men's basketball traditional play layout for the first 14 games, with consideration for competitive balance and geographical constraints to determine the final four games, according to the league office. The new layout was constructed to provide competitive matchups at the end of the regular season with the ultimate goal of increasing the number of league teams advancing into postseason competition.

Towson and Marshall are both coming into the contest with its last game as a loss at Rutgers. The Tigers played in Piscataway on Dec. 8 and fell 67-53. Coach Diane Richardson led Towson through an 11-win turnaround in her second season.
In 2019-20, Kionna Jeter is leading the way again averaging 18.4 points per game. Jeter has scored in double-digits in every game including a season-high 31 in the win over Iona. She also poured in 23 and had eight steals at Rutgers. Jeter leads the Tigers in rebounds (7.0) and steals (33).
