Hancock named to National Football Foundation Honor Society

Third-straight season member of Herd named to list
IRVING, Texas – Former Marshall linebacker Chase Hancock was named to the National Football Foundation's Hampshire Honor Society, the organization announced Wednesday afternoon.
Hancock, a former walk-on, amassed 320 total tackles in his time in a Herd uniform. The redshirt senior also finished his Marshall career with 19.0 career tackles for loss and 7.0 career sacks.
The Beckley, West Virginia, native wrapped up his playing career this past December with a win in the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa, Florida, accounting for seven total tackles. Hancock led the team in tackles five times last season and finished as the team's leader in total tackles in back-to-back seasons.
For Marshall, it is the third consecutive season a member of the Thundering Herd has been named to the list. Last year, current Oakland Raiders halfback Ryan Yurachek was honored.
Nominated by their respective schools, members of the NFF Hampshire Honor Society must have completed their final year of playing eligibility in 2018, achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average throughout entire course of undergraduate study, met all NCAA- or NAIA-mandated progress toward degree requirements, and been starters or significant contributors throughout the 2018 season.
"We have honored more than 10,000 student-athletes in the last 13 years thanks to (Hampshire Company founder and chairman) Jon Hanson's generosity," said NFF Chairman Archie Manning. "We are grateful for his passionate belief in the scholar-athlete ideal, and the Hampshire Honor Society allows us to showcase the names of tomorrow's leaders while inspiring future generations to follow in their footsteps."
The initiative has now honored 10,660 student-athletes since its inception, and the program has experienced growth every year in either members or school participation since its launch in 2007.
