Herd to host Soccer Day Camp, Elite ID Camp & Goalkeeper/Striker Camp

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall men's soccer team announced Thursday a series of camp dates for the summer of 2019.
The Thundering Herd will host Soccer Day Camps on June 24-27 as well as July 15-19. The Elite ID Camps are scheduled for April 20, June 26 and July 20. And finally the Goalkeeper/Striker Camps are set for July 27-28. Camps are open to any and all entrants. Visit the soccer camps page for more information to sign up.
The Soccer Day Camps on June 24-27 will be at Hoops Family Field in Huntington, W.Va. The second set of the Day Camps, July 15-19, will be held in Huntington and at the Shawnee Soccer Complex in Dunbar, W.Va. Both camps are scheduled for 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. each day. Cost is $150 per person and there are discounts for siblings and large groups. The discount for siblings is $50 and the same for groups of five or more. Groups of 10 or more will receive a $75 discount.
"These camps were a huge success last year, especially at Shawnee," Herd head coach Chris Grassie said. "We want these camps to create a fun and soccer nourishing environment here at Hoops Family Field and at the Shawnee Soccer Complex. As well as providing a structured soccer curriculum, we hope to imbue your kids with the joy and passion for the game."
The one day Elite ID Camp is for those high school level players with ambitions to play collegiate soccer for the Herd, or for those just looking to take their game to the next level. Don't miss this opportunity to work first hand with the Marshall coaching staff at the tremendous Hoops Family Field. Spend each session on the field demonstrating your ability for the next level, while taking in Coach Grassie's tactical vision for the Herd Men's Soccer team. These opportunities don't come around often, so register today to hold your spot. Cost is $100 per person.
"ID camps are an integral part of our overall recruiting strategy," coach Grassie said. "It's a great way for us to identify players that we may not have already seen on our recruiting travels, or to see a player we have recruited a final time before inviting them onto our team. It's also a way for us to work on the pitch with campers to see if they have the qualities as players and as people to make it in our program.
"Over the last few years we have added four players to our roster who have come through this process. We run the entire day with the sole intent to assess campers' ability to play at the college level."
The Marshall Soccer Goalkeeper/Striker camp is a late summer tradition for all players aged 8-18 in West Virginia and beyond. Spend an action packed weekend playing an attacking style and finishing games with the goalkeepers. Because of the popularity, there is a limit of campers the team can take, so make sure to reserve your spot today. Cost is $175 per person.
"The GK-Striker Camp focuses on the business ends of the game, scoring goals, and stopping goals," coach Grassie said. "It's a day that is fast paced, and filled with all the secrets to success that our coaches have gathered in their years in the game. Whether you want to learn how to hit the top corner like Kevin De Bruyne, or dribble and finish like Leo Messi, or fly through the air like Cristiano Ronaldo to deliver a bullet header, this is your camp.
"Conversely, if you want to learn how to read a strikers body language so you can deny their opportunity, or you want to command your box like Manuel Neuer, or you want to have reflexes like David De Gea, this is the camp for you."
