Men’s Golf Set to Begin Conference USA Championships

Teams tee off Monday at 8 a.m., Marshall to tee off at 8:50 a.m.

TEXARKANA, Texas – The Marshall men's golf team is ready to tee off in the 2019 Conference USA Championships, April 22-25, at the Texarkana Country Club. Teams begin play at 8 a.m., and Marshall's first player will tee off at 8:50 a.m.
The three-round event begins on Monday, April 22. Due to the possibility of inclement weather, the teams will play two rounds on Monday and then the third round on Tuesday. The course is a par 72 with a total distance of 6,935 yards.
"The team has shown steady improvement all year and I think we are playing some really good golf right now," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "Texarkana Country Club is a wonderful golf course and a really good challenge for our conference championship. The of Texarkana really embraces the championship and it is a great environment.
"It should be a great week for us and I am looking forward to watching out guys compete."
Thirteen teams and 65 golfers will be competing in the event.
Conference USA has four teams ranked in the Golf Stat Top 100 in UAB (77), UTSA (85), WKU (87) and North Texas (94).
Competing for Marshall will be redshirt sophomores Cameron Root and Will Straub, redshirt junior Ben Roeder, freshman Kyle Mitchell and redshirt senior Thomas Frazier.
Marshall's best finish at the C-USA Championships was fifth in 2013. Nathan Kerns came in third overall in the event with a 5-under 211.
