Marshall is coming off a series win against the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters. LA Tech was the top team in the conference going into the weekend with 13-2 record in C-USA play. The Herd fought hard but fell 10-8 in the first game. Marshall then bounced back to take game two, 10-2, in five innings. Senior Hayden Ellis finished the doubleheader day with three home runs including a three-run homer in the seventh of game one to cut the Herd's deficit down to two. Her third home run of the day put Marshall up 3-0 in the in the second and was on base from a walk when senior Hannah Giammarino ended the game with a grand slam.

The Herd battled for the series win on Saturday. Marshall trailed 6-4 going into the bottom of the seventh. Giammarino started the inning with a solo home run to make it a one-run game. The Herd then loaded the bases as sophomore Rachel Rousseau hit a double, sophomore Aly Harrell was intentionally walked and freshman Mya Stevenson drew a walk. Junior Blakely Burch delivered the final blow with a double to the fence in right as the last two runs crossed the plate for the walk-off victory.

Ellis was named Conference USA Player of the Week on Monday and was also named the 2019 Warrior Award winner before the game on Saturday.

Louisville is coming off a series sweep of Georgia Tech this past weekend. The Cardinals posted 29 runs during the three wins. Head Coach Holly Aprile is in her first year at the helm after spending the last 10 years as the head coach at Pittsburgh. The Cardinals are batting .293 this season and have five players all hitting over .300. Sidney Melton leads the way with a .349 average, has 53 hits, eight doubles and four triples. Celene Funk is batting .337 and leads the country in total triples with 10. Louisville has been aggressive on the base paths as well with 87 stolen bases in 101 attempts. In the circle, the staff ERA is 3.08. Danielle Watson has tossed the most innings with 125, has a 3.58 ERA, 10-11 record, and 138 strikeouts.

Marshall and Louisville have met just seven times over the years and the Cardinals lead 5-2. The first meeting came in a doubleheader at Louisville on April 4, 2001 as Marshall fell in both contests. The Herd won the next meetings with a doubleheader sweep on March 14, 2007, the last time the Cardinals were in Huntington. Louisville took the next doubleheader in 2008 and won the most recent matchup in an offensive shootout last season. The Herd fell 13-10 in Louisville on May 2, 2018.
