Men’s Golf Improves in Final Round of the Irish Creek Intercollegiate

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – The Marshall men's golf team finished out the Irish Creek Intercollegiate with a strong third round on Sunday. The Herd improved by 22 strokes from the second to the final round.
Marshall finished in 15th place.
"Another good round for the guys today," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "It was really nice to see them bounce back today. The second round was tough to come back from but they responded well and played hard.
"Got a couple of weeks to get some work done and get ready for Conference USA Championships."
Redshirt sophomore Cameron Root shot an even-par 71, a 6-stroke improvement from the second round. Freshman Kyle Mitchell also scored a 71, eight strokes better than the second round and moved up 10 spots on the leaderboard. Redshirt senior Thomas Frazier was three strokes better, redshirt junior Ben Roeder improved by five shots and redshirt sophomore Will Straub was four strokes better in the final round.
UNCG continued to distance itself from the field on Sunday to take home the team award. The Spartans finished the event with a team score of 18-under, 834, eight shots ahead of Ohio State. Bryce Hendrix of UNCG made it a clean sweep in the awards for the Spartans as he finished at 20-under, 193, for the weekend. John Pak of Florida State was the runner-up with a 9-under, 204.
