Tennis Closes Home Schedule Against University of Charleston

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall women's tennis team closes its 2019 home slate Tuesday afternoon with a matinee match against the University of Charleston. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
Tuesday's match will also serve as the Thundering Herd's booster appreciation day, with all invited to attend. There will be a lunch served at noon prior to the match.
 
HAVE YOU HERD?
Marshall had its most recent scheduled match against VCU postponed due to poor weather in the Richmond, Virginia, area. The two schools are working on rescheduling the match.
 
Marshall boasts five singles players with at least six dual match wins, headlined by sophomore Anna Smith with 10. Madi Ballow has nine wins, Daniela Dankanych and Liz Stefancic have seven wins apiece and Victoria Walter has six wins.
 
Stefancic is 6-2 in her last eight singles matches, while Ballow is 5-1 in her last six singles matches.
 
This is Marshall's second match of the season against an opponent from the Mountain East Conference. The Herd defeated West Virginia State in January, 7-0.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: CHARLESTON (W.Va.)
The University of Charleston enters Tuesday's match with a 14-2 record, including a 3-0 record in Mountain East Conference play. The Golden Eagles have won five straight matches, with all five being contested in Charleston.
 
Elise Edwards leads the Golden Eagles with a 15-1 singles record, splitting time between the Nos. 2 and 3 spots. Kristine Gegeshidze is 13-5 at the No. 1 spot. Edwards is 13-2 in doubles play with three different partners.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Marshall is 4-0 all time against the University of Charleston and is 9-0 all-time against Mountain East Conference opponents.
 
UP NEXT
The Herd closes its season on the road with matches at Liberty on Thursday and at Old Dominion on Sunday. There may also be an extra match at VCU added later in the week.
