Baseball’s Guerrero Named Co-Conference USA Pitcher of the Week

The junior closer threw four-hitless innings and picked up two wins during a sweep of Rice
IRVING, Texas – Michael Guerrero was named co-Conference USA Pitcher of the Week on Sunday (May 19) by the league office after helping the Herd to a sweep of Rice over the weekend.
He is just the second primary reliever to earn C-USA Pitcher of the Week this season.
Guerrero came on in the clutch for the Herd as he picked up a pair of victories in relief with walk-off hits in extra innings in both games. Guerrero pitched perfect 10th and 11th innings in game one of the series on Thursday allowing no base runners on an efficient 21 pitches to six batters with a strikeout to his line.
In Friday's 10-inning victory, he allowed no hits in the ninth and 10th innings, allowing just two Owls to reach on walks and striking out three batters.
Guerrero is the team's closer and threw when it counted in non-save situations to help Marshall reach its first conference tournament since 2016. He is now 4-1 and has appeared in 25 games, all out of the bullpen.
Sixth-seeded Marshall will take on the third seed, Louisiana Tech, in game one of The First 2019 Conference USA Baseball Championship on Wednesday at 9 a.m.
