Peralta, Shapiro, Edwards Honored by Conference USA with Post-Season Honors

Peralta was named first-team all-conference, Shapiro earned second-team honors and Edwards was named to the all-freshmen team
IRVING, Texas – Shortstop Elvis Peralta was named to the All-Conference USA First-Team, left-handed pitcher Joshua Shapiro received second-team honors and freshman outfielder Luke Edwards was named to the conference's all-freshman team as the conference office announced post-season award winners Tuesday afternoon.

Peralta has been a force in C-USA after redshirting last season putting up a slash line of .352/.418/.571, all bests among Marshall qualifying batters. His team-leading nine homers are tied for eighth most in the conference, with eight of the nine coming in conference play. He has 74 hits this season are fifth in C-USA. Peralata has helped turn 30 double plays. His 41 RBI and 41 runs scored are second most on Marshall this season.

Shapiro has a team-leading 3.58 ERA, ninth-best in the conference, in a team-leading 78 IP this season with 68 strikeouts, both ninth-most in C-USA. His team-leading .229 opposing batting average is fifth best in Conference USA. He is tied for 11th in the conference with a team-leading five wins in 14 starts. Struck out a career-high 12 batters while allowing just three hits in a no-decision team-win over Louisiana Tech on Apr. 18.

Edwards began the season as a pinch-hitter/runner the first couple weeks of the season before cracking the everyday lineup on Mar. 29 against Middle Tennessee. As a freshman, Edwards is batting .264 with 26 runs scored, 15 RBI, eight doubles and two home runs. Has a .350 OBP and is slugging .380 this season. He has appeared in 41 games while starting 29. Has made just two errors has a .960 fielding percentage playing games in right field, at second base and third base.
