Linder drove in all three of Marshall’s runs

BILOXI, Miss. – The Thundering Herd baseball team's (29-28) season came to an end with a 6-3 loss to Rice on Friday at The First 2019 C-USA Baseball Championship at MGM Park in the third round.
Marshall got on the board first with a two-out RBI single in the first inning by Tucker Linder to make 1-0 after the first inning.
The Owls struck for two runs in the top of the third and two more in the fifth to take a 4-1 advantage.
In the bottom of the fifth, Erik Rodriguez drew a walk, Shane Hanon singled and Elvis Peralta, Jr., drew a walk to load the bases with one out. After an Owl pitching change, Linder smoked a ball through the left side to bring the Herd's deficit to one, 4-3, as the game headed to the sixth.
After scoreless sixth and seventh innings pitched by Ryan Falls and Philip Hoffman the score remained 4-3 going to the top of the eighth.
Rice scored two runs again in the top of the eighth to extend its lead to 6-3.
Guerrero threw a scoreless top of the ninth, going an inning and two-thirds in the contest.
The Herd had the top of the order come up in the bottom of the ninth, but a Peralta two-out single wasn't enough to overcome the deficit as the season came to an end.
NOTES
- Shane Hanon extended his on-base streak and hitting streak to 29 and 14, respectively, with walk in the third and a single in the fifth.
- Linder had all three Marshall RBI.
- The Herd issued 13 walks and hit a batter in the game.
- Peralta finished with 80 hits in the season, tied for third most in a season in program history.
UP NEXT
Marshall is done for 2019 and will be back in action when the 2020 season begins in February.
