Women’s Soccer Closes Out Florida Trip with Loss to FGCU

McVicker made first start in goal
FORT MEYERS, Fla. – Marshall women's soccer (2-7-0, 0-1-0) closed out its trip to Florida with a 2-0 loss at Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday afternoon.
"The team played better today and created some good chances offensively, but still had trouble defending in front of our goal," head coach Kevin Long said after the loss. "We will look to continue to make strides on Thursday against UTEP."
Thundering Herd freshman goalkeeper Courtney McVicker recorded her first career start in the game.
McVicker made the first save of the match nearly 15 minutes into the match.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead when Evdokia Popadinova scored at the 28:31 mark.
Mary Lawman put a shot on goal, but it was saved in the 41st minute as the score remained 1-0 at halftime.
After nearly 33 minutes of scoreless play in the second half, Popadinova scored her second goal of the contest at the 77:56 mark.
McVicker made four saves in the loss.
The Herd returns to Huntington on Thursday (Sept. 26) with a 7 p.m. clash against UTEP at Hoops Family Field.
