Mitchell's Eagle Highlights Second Round for Men's Golf at Loyola Intercollegiate
Sophomore scored a two-under, three on the par-5 No. 14

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The Marshall men's golf team completed the second round of the Loyola Intercollegiate on Sunday at the Palm Valley Golf Club. Sophomore Kyle Mitchell's eagle on No. 14 highlighted the day for the Herd.

Marshall fell back four strokes and now sits in 10th place.

"Today was another good day for the guys," Herd head coach Matt Grobe said. "We teed off first thing this morning and it was really cold and a little breezy. The temperatures warmed up as the day went on and the back nine was very pleasant.

"Brad Plaziak continued his good play with an even par round. He is playing so well right now. Will Straub had a round of one under today and really drove the ball well. Ben Roeder had an incredible day with his ball striking on his way to an even par. Cameron Root battled hard on the back nine and was even there. Tyler Jones is really playing well right now and when the putts start dropping he is going to shoot some low rounds. Kyle Mitchell had a chip in on the 14th hole for eagle and really looked good today.

"This was two of the best days I have seen us play back-to-back in a long time. We have a lot of strokes to make up tomorrow but if we can get hot on the greens I think we have a good chance to move up the leaderboard."

Mitchell's chip for eagle helped him finish at two-over for the round as he improved by one shot from round one. Redshirt senior Ben Roeder recorded three birdies on the front-nine and improved by two strokes from Saturday. Junior Brad Plaziak sank three birdies throughout the day. Freshman Tyler Jones and redshirt junior Cameron Root both tallied two birdies each and redshirt junior Will Straub scored three birdies playing as an individual and improved his score by three strokes.

Drake moved ahead of Loyola Marymount by one shot for the team lead. As a team, Drake scored a 6-under 282. Joseph Crisostomo of Air Force moved in to a tie for the lead with Roberto Nieves of Delaware. Crisostomo scored a 3-under 69 for the second time to move up three spots.
