Herd Sets School Record For Points At C-USA Indoor Championships

Mitchell, Majoy, and 4x400 Relay Earn All-Conference

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Marshall track and field set a new school record for points at the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships with 45 team points in an 8th place finish at the CrossPlex in Birmingham.
 
"Our kids fought very hard across the board to earn the highest point total ever at the Indoor Championships," head coach Jeff Small said. "Leading the way as always was Safiyyah Mitchell who placed second in the 60 meter hurdles for the fourth year in a row and ran a leg on our second place 4x400 meter relay. With the 10 points she scored today she became the highest point scorer in Marshall history at the Conference USA Indoor Championships.
 
Additional shout-out to Macie Majoy for earning All-Conference USA honors in the pole vault. All across the board we fought hard."
 
Mitchell scored 35.75 points over her career at the meet, which surpasses the previous best in school history of 28.25 by All-American Vanessa Jules.
 
The Herd had three different performances earn All-C-USA honors. The aforementioned Mitchell who finished 2nd in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.53. She finished 2nd in the event all four years at Marshall. Her combined with Hannah Carreon and Taylor Robinson earned a total of 15.50 points in the event.
 
The 4x400 meter relay team of Mitchell, Christianna Dogan, Ashonti Warner and Mikah Alleyne finished 2nd with the third-best time in school history at 3:46.44.
 
Sophomore Macie Majoy tied for 3rd with a personal record clearance of 3.86 meters (12 feet, 8 inches) to tie the 2018 school record and earn All-C-USA honors.
 
Also earning points for Marshall in team standings was freshman Mikah Alleyne who matched her personal record time in the 400 meter dash, set yesterday in preliminaries, of 55.61. Additionally, senior Denisha West finished 6th in the triple jump (12.02m/41 ft. 10 in.).
 
Marshall finished 8th out of 13 teams for the third consecutive year.
