Last Time Out: Dr. Bobbie Bailey Memorial Tournament
Marshall came away with another winning weekend with a 3-2 record from its trip to Kennesaw, Ga. The Herd struggled early in the first game against ETSU and battled back to force extra innings. Marshall trailed 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh. Senior Blakely Burch hit a one-out triple and then scored on an errant throw as the pitcher tried to throw out junior Armani Brown at first. The contest moved to the eighth inning and ETSU immediately reclaimed the lead with a 2-run home run. However, Marshall was not done fighting. The defense made the plays to keep it at a 2-run deficit. With junior Saige Pye running at second (international tie-breaker rule), sophomore Mya Stevenson got things started with an infield single that allowed Pye to score as the ball bounced hard away from the third baseman. Junior Katie Adams then got on base with a single and sophomore Rachel Pennington came in to run at first representing the game-winning run. Two batters later, junior Rachel Rousseau sent Stevenson home with a double and moved Pennington to third with the game tied at 4-4. Next, Burch came to the plate and delivered her second career walkoff hit with a single up the middle that brought home Pennington.

The Herd got the offense rolling in the second matchup with ETSU. Marshall tallied nine hits and eight walks in the 9-1 win. The highlight came in the top of the fourth as senior Haleigh Christopher came to the plate as a pinch hitter with the bases loaded, and proceeded to smack a grand slam to left-center. It was her first home run in a Herd uniform. Blakely Burch added three more runs in the sixth with a bases-clearing double. Freshman pitcher Ashley Blessin earned her second career win.

Marshall lost to Kennesaw State, 10-6, in the Saturday nightcap as the Owls piled up 11 hits. Despite the loss, Christopher belted her second homer of the day with a three-run shot in the first. The Herd came back Sunday morning with an 8-0 victory over Rhode Island. Marshall tallied 14 hits in the five-inning victory. Junior Aly Harrell drove in four runs for the third time this season. Junior pitcher Laney Jones held the Rams to just one hit in her first shutout with Marshall.

The Herd fell in the final game of the weekend, 5-1, again to the host Kennesaw State Owls. Marshall had 10 hits in the game and loaded the bases twice but just not could find the timely hit.
