Thundering Herd Sweeps C-USA Swimming and Diving Awards

Ivey and Laster honored
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall freshman Gabrielle Ivey and sophomore Alania Laster were named Conference USA Swimming and Diver of the Week, respectively, by the league office on Wednesday.
Ivey notched wins in the 200 Backstroke and 100 Freestyle over the two days of competition against Liberty. Her backstroke time of 2:00.81 is currently C-USA's best time in the event and she now sits sixth overall in the 100 Freestyle (52.41) in the league's rankings. That backstroke time also puts her eighth all-time in program history.
She was also part of three relays that placed second over the weekend, swimming the fastest split (51.81) in the 400 Freestyle Relay. Her leadoff (28.09) in the 400 Medley Relay places her sixth, currently, in the C-USA rankings for the 100 Backstroke.
Alaina Laster led the way for the Marshall divers, specifically shining in the 3-meter Diving event, narrowly missing the win by .15 points. Her score of 245.18 was her dual meet lifetime best by over 16 points since arriving at Marshall. Laster also paced all Marshall divers by notching a third-place finish in the 1-meter event on Saturday, with a score of 224.10.
"We are really proud of both Gabby and Alaina for sweeping the conference awards," said Marshall head swimming and diving coach Ian Walsh. "They put together two strong days of competition and positioned themselves well heading into the rest of the semester."
The Thundering Herd is back in action Saturday, November 13 at home against Toledo.
