Team captain on fire with three goals in last two matches
DALLAS – Marshall men's soccer graduate student Pedro Dolabella was on fire offensively during the past week and was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. The midfielder scored all three of the Herd's goals over the last two matches.
This is Dolabella's first weekly award.
"Pedro has been performing very well since about the second or third week of the season," Herd head coach Chris Grassie said. "He's definitely one of the best players in college as he can do pretty much everything on the pitch. He can defend, he's good on set pieces, he can play as a ten or a nine, assist and score goals. Great to see him get this award. Hopefully he can keep playing well and lead us to more trophies."
Nicknamed "The Mayor" Dolabella has been lighting up the scoreboard this season, either from scoring a goal or assisting on one. He recorded his first career-two-goal match in Marshall's 2-0 victory over Butler at home with the first coming in the 23rd minute and the next in the 77th minute, helping to earn coach Grassie his 50th win at Marshall and becoming the fastest in program history to reach the mark.
At Old Dominion, the team captain scored in the 59th minute to give the Herd the lead as Marshall held on for its fourth-straight shutout in the league win, as well as the 150th career win for coach Grassie.
The Brasilia, Brazil native leads the team with six goals and is tied with senior Vinicius Fernandes for the lead in points with 16. Dolabella has scored a goal or assisted on a score in eight of Marshall's 10 matches this season. The only contests that he did not contribute to a score was against No. 15 Virginia Tech (Aug. 29) and the scoreless draw against No. 10 Kentucky (Sept. 25).
Dolabella has netted 19 goals in his prestigious career, putting him into a tie for sixth place all-time at Marshall with former champion teammate Jamil Roberts. Dolabella has 14 assists in his career as well, including four this year good for third on the team, and is tied for 10th all-time in Marshall's history. His 52 total career points has him tied with Ian Leggett (1996-99) for eighth all-time at Marshall.
Dolabella has helped lead Marshall to it biggest wins in program history since he came in as a freshman in 2017 with back-to-back Conference USA titles and of course the 2020 College Cup National Championship.
With 83 career matches under his belt, Dolabella and the fifth-ranked Herd hit the road again this weekend heading down to Florida Atlantic. Kickoff is set for Saturday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m.
