Herd in Second After Two Days at Liberty Invite

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Marshall's Swimming and Diving team competed in the second day of action at the Liberty Invitational on Saturday and currently sits in second with a total of 1,657.5 points.
The Liberty Flames moved up to first (1,731). Behind the Thundering Herd is Campbell in third (1,590), then East Carolina (634.5) and UNC Asheville (76).
Marshall's 4x50 medley team of Raeleigh Mooij, Paige Banton, Madeline Hart and Klava Katayama kicked off the day with a win in 1:42.62.
Marshall swept the top four spots in the 100 Butterfly. Hart and Katayama led the Herd by tying for first and finishing with a time of 55.45. Nicole Rueff (56.16) and Leigh Lopez-Silvers (56.17) followed in third and fourth, respectively.
Marshall's Gabrielle Ivey took second in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:50.47. Paige Banton tallied another win (1:02.73) in the 100 Breaststroke. Alaina Laster paced the Herd in diving with a sixth-place finish (211.40).
MU's 4 x 200 Freestyle Relay team had a time of 7:38.56 and finished second. The team included Hart, Ivey, Regan Raines and Sofia Bormett.
Or Tamir collected a second-place (56.55) finish in the 100 Backstroke.
Day three preliminaries will get underway at 10 a.m. Sunday, with the finals to follow at 5 p.m.

"This morning really set the tone for the day. We had so many highlights through the two sessions. Our divers all performed really well, notching lifetime bests and Alaina now sits eighth all-time on 1-meter."
"We walked away with three big wins tonight and several close finishes. Our 200 Medley Relay, 100 Butterfly and 100 Breaststroke were a lot of fun to watch unfold. We've been getting stronger each session and we're excited to make a statement tomorrow morning."
