HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University men's basketball team (7-5) fell in its final home game of 2021, 75-60, to the University of Northern Iowa Panthers (4-5) on Saturday evening in the Cam Henderson Center.

"It was a not very good second half. We had a 12-point lead in the first half and in the second half they just stepped it up," Herd men's basketball head coach Dan D'Antoni said after the loss. "One of the things we have to do better is to get the ball going through Obinna (Anochili-Killen) more. His offensive game has matured a lot in the last three weeks. Taevion (Kinsey) and Andy (Taylor) need to step it up when it comes to the offense and carry the load."

Freshman Obinna Anochili-Killen poured a career-high 22 points through the basket. The forward made seven of his 10 shots from the field, including 3-for-4 from three-point range, grabbed five rebounds and rejected three shots.

Junior Taevion Kinsey scored 10 points in the loss. Redshirt sophomore Andrew Taylor brought down a team-high six rebounds and paced his side with two steals.

UNI's AJ Green put up a game-high 29 points to go with five boards, two helpers and a pair of takeaways.

Marshall went on a pair of 5-0 runs in the first 4:16 of the contest to jump out to a 10-4 lead. The two sides then traded baskets for the next three minutes as the Herd held an 18-13 advantage at the 12:29 mark in the first half.

A pair of made free-throw attempts by Kinsey kick started a 7-0 Marshall run that gave it a 12-point lead, 25-13, its largest of the game.

The Panthers outscored the Herd 17-7 in the final six minutes of the half, but MU still carried a two-point edge, 36-34, into the break.

Marshall made 46.4 percent (13-of-28) of its shots from the field in the opening 20 minutes of play and held UNI to just 36.4 percent (12-of-33).

The Panthers used a 7-0 run from 18:47 to 17:39 to take a 44-40 advantage over the Herd.

UNI had four more runs of five or more points in the final 17 minutes of action and held the Herd to 24 second-half points as MU fell by a 15-point margin.

NOTES

Kinsey reached double-figure scoring for the 46th consecutive outing.

The Herd made a three in its 982nd consecutive game, with the last contest without a triple occurring on Feb. 27, 1989, in a win over App State.

Anochili-Killen has tallied 10 or more points in 11 of Marshall's 12 games this season. It was his first career game 20-point contest.

The Herd concludes non-conference action at Toledo on Tuesday. Opening tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
