Women’s Golf Finishes Wet Strutter Gus Invitational

Herd returns to the course March 8-9 at River Landing Classic

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Marshall women's golf team concluded the Strutter Gus Invitational on Monday, finishing the second round and then playing the third.
Conditions were very wet after lots of rain over the days prior to the event and another quick blast of storms coming through during the final round. Marshall finished in 12th place.
The Herd saw an improvement in the final round dropping its team total by 17 strokes from the second round. Senior Kerri Parks led Marshall, tying for 17th place, who also saw a much better third round. Parks finished the final round with a plus-1, 73, nine strokes better than her second round. Sophomore Makena Rauch improved by 11 strokes from the second to the third round as well. Sophomore Peyton Schaffer dropped her score by four strokes and junior Torren Kalaskey saw her score improve through each round.
Seminole State (Fla.) won the team title by one stroke over Georgia Southern. Seminole State turned in the best team score in the third round of the entire event with a plus-15, 303. Ana Perez Altuna of Jacksonville State narrowly held off Tara Bettle of UNC Greensboro and Alberte Thuesen of Georgia Southern to capture the individual title. Altuna finished with an even par-72 in the final round.
Next up for the Herd is the River Landing Classic, March 8-9, hosted by UNC Wilmington in Wallace, N.C.
