Softball Announces Additions to Schedule & Thundering Herd Round Robin Games

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall softball head coach Megan Smith Lyon announced additions to the 2021 softball schedule on Thursday, as well as the schedule for the Thundering Herd Round Robin, March 5-7.

The Herd has added non-conference dates with Akron and Longwood.

Marshall's first games of the 2021 season will now be a doubleheader against the Akron Zips on Wednesday, March 3, beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Dot Hicks Field. Rules for fan attendance at home games will be forthcoming.

The Herd will also travel to Akron for a doubleheader on March 25. Marshall will hit the road for a doubleheader at Longwood on March 10.

The Thundering Herd Round Robin, March 5-7, at Dot Hicks Field will feature Valparaiso, Bowling Green and St. Francis. Marshall will play five games over the weekend tournament. Everything begins with Valparaiso and Bowling Green taking the field at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 5. The Herd then plays against Bowling Green at 1:30 p.m.

On Saturday, St. Francis and Valparaiso start the day's action at 9:30 a.m. Marshall then takes the field against Valparaiso (11:30 a.m.) and then versus St. Francis (1:30 p.m.). The final day of the Thundering Herd Round Robin on Sunday, begins with Valparaiso and St. Francis at 9:30 a.m., followed by Marshall against St. Francis (11:30 a.m.) and then Valparaiso (1:30 p.m.).

The rest of the Herd's schedule remains the same with non-conference series dates with Chattanooga (March 20-21) and Bellarmine (March 27-28), before getting into Conference USA action. Marshall plays at home against WKU (April 2-4) and then Florida Atlantic (April 16-18). The Herd will travel to Middle Tennessee (April 9-11), FIU (April 23-25) and Charlotte (May 7-9). The C-USA Tournament takes place May 12-15, in Bowling Green, Ky.
