The back line of Mocyunas, juniors Nathan Dossantos and Jan-Erik Leinhos and sophomore Gabriel Alves along with goalkeeper Oliver Semmle have been exceptional lately with three-straight shutouts, and all in conference play. Marshall blanked South Carolina 2-0, then (RV) FIU 1-0 in overtime and then the 1-0 victory at No. 11 Kentucky. The five players have combined for 3,411 minutes on the pitch and have held Marshall's opponents to just 43 total shots, 13 on goal, and four goals scored in eight contests. Dossantos was named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week on March 16, making it back-to-back weeks for a member of the Herd defense.

The Opponent
The West Virginia Mountaineers have a new head coach this season in Dan Stratford, a former assistant of Herd head coach Chris Grassie's at the University of Charleston. When Grassie left Charleston for Huntington, Stratford took over at UC and led the team to two NCAA Division II National Championships including 2019, his final season. Stratford, who played at WVU from 2004-07, and for the D.C. United in 2008, was hired to take over the Mountaineers in January of 2020.
WVU began the season with a 3-0 win over Charlotte and then a 1-0 win over Northern Illinois in Mid-American Conference action. The Mountaineers then dropped two-straight 1-0 decisions to Western Michigan and Bowling Green. The last time out on the pitch, WVU defeated SIU Edwardsville, 2-0. The match against Marshall will be the last non-conference contest of the regular season for WVU.
