No. 12 Men’s Soccer Begins Conference USA Play at South Carolina

Kickoff set for 2 p.m.
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The 12th-ranked Marshall men's soccer team kicks off Conference USA play at South Carolina, Saturday at 2 p.m.
Marshall enters the match 3-1-1 overall. The Gamecocks played some matches in the fall of 2020 and come in at 6-3 overall.

Marshall lost its first match of the season at the Akron Zips on Tuesday, 2-1 in overtime. The Herd played a man down for over 70 minutes after a red card was issued to freshman Kain Reed. The Marshall defense stepped up and held off the Zips attack, until Akron finally sent in the game-winner in the 98th minute.
Junior Vitor Dias scored his fourth goal of the season in the 20th minute and leads the team. Junior Jan-Erik Leinhos is second on the Herd in scoring with three goals, two from successful penalty kicks, and two assists. Redshirt sophomore Milo Yosef has two goals and recorded his first assist of the season on the goal by Dias at Akron.
Junior goalkeeper Oliver Semmle is 2-1-1 this season. Semmle has allowed three goals, has four saves, a 0.62 goals against average and a .571 save percentage.
The United Soccer Coaches/NCAA came out with its first top 25 poll of the spring season on March 2, and the Herd entered at No. 12.
The Opponent
South Carolina played five matches in the fall and had a 3-2 record. Since getting back in to action in February, the Gamecocks have gone 3-1. It's most recent contest was a 2-1 win over Wofford on Feb. 27.
Eight different players have scored a goal for South Carolina. Andrew Halloran leads with three goals and also has one assist. Brian Banahan, Logan Frost, Christian Kraus have two goals each. The Gamecocks have used three players in the net this season. Ryan Billchuk has played the most with 270 minutes and has a 1.33 goals against average. Nick Brady and Justin Bauer have played 135 minutes each. Brady sports a 0.67 goals against average and Bauer has a 2.00.
