Pole Vaulters Headline Massive Day For Herd At C-USA Championships

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Marshall track and field is through the third day of competition at the Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Middle Tennessee.
The Thundering Herd closed Saturday in fifth place out of 12 schools with 23 points.
Of the 23 points, 14 came Saturday from the Thundering Herd pole vaulters, Lauren Zaglifa and Macie Majoy, both of whom earned All-Conference USA honors. Zaglifa finished second (4.03 meters/13 feet, 2.50 inches, 8 team points) and Macie Majoy took third (3.93m/12 ft. 10.75 in., 6 team points).
Both top clearances were personal records, for Zaglifa it was a new school record. Her top clearance was the first women's mark in school history over four meters. The duo are the first two women's pole vaulters in school history to receive all-conference honors in an outdoor meet.
One more school record was broken Saturday, as Mikah Alleyne once again broke the 400 meter dash school record with a time of 54.06. She qualified for Sunday's final in the event.
Five other Thundering Herd athletes qualified for Sunday finals on the track through preliminary events. Safiyyah Mitchell (100mH) and Ashonti Warner (400mH) each ran the fastest times in their respective events on Saturday to earn places on Sunday.
Taylor Robinson joined Mitchell in the 100mH finals. Tori Dotson in the 800m and Abby Herring in the 1500m each qualified for finals on the distance side. Herring's time was a personal record and is the second-best in school history in the event.
Brooke Burns added one more point to the team standings in the discus, improving her fifth-best personal record in school history to 44.74m (146 ft. 9 in.). She finished eighth.
Sydney Smith finished eighth in the 3000m steeplechase with a personal record time of 11:17.52. That time is the fourth-best PR in the program's history and earned Marshall one point in the team rankings.
